Madison Square Garden

Named after US Founding Father and the fourth President of The United States James Madison, this multipurpose facility opened its doors at its original location in 1879.

In 1925, a newer Madison Square Garden was built at Eighth Ave and 50th Street, capable of accommodating sports such as basketball, hockey and political events.  The current structure, located at Eighth Ave and 33rd Street, the site of the former Pennsylvania Station (Penn Station) opened in 1968.
